Sustainable water treatment

In addition to the chemicals used to clean and protect your car, special consideration has to be made for the water after it’s used in the process. When you wash your car on your driveway, water running off your car may contain oil or petroleum, salts and other chemicals that may run into storm drains leading to fresh water sources and harm aquatic life.

At Co-op, wastewater from your car wash passes through a series of underground settling tanks where oil and grease are captured. The remaining suspended solids settle to the bottom of the tank, and then the clean water is released into the municipal sewage system for further processing. Wastewater from Co-op Car Washes is not released into storm drains.
